Recovering From the Silly Season

Still feeling a little sluggish after the silly season madness? Every year many of us experience post-silly-season complaints ranging from exhaustion, headaches, skin breakouts and weight gain to more psychological symptoms such as depression, guilt and regret.

The festive season is often a time for enjoyment and over indulgence. In most cases, making the goal to survive December and January on steamed chicken and kale just doesn’t work. But there are simple ways to recover:

1. Hydrate Baby!

Substitute your breakfast espresso for water or green tea. Australian dietary recommendations suggest 2L water per day, but you should up this if you live in a warm or humid climate, exercise or spend time in the sun and air conditioning.

2. Green It Up

Dark green, leafy vegetables will help repair your immune system, and internal organs to get you feeling fantastic again. They’ll also help with boosting energy levels.

3. Get Your Glow Back

Include fruits and vegetables high in Vitamin A and those that boost collagen absorption; including carrots, apricots, red capsicum and berries.

4. Catch Some Zs

After all those late nights, it’s important to make time for quality sleep. Try going to bed at the same time each night to balance body rhythms and remember to put the electronic devices down at least 30mins before bedtime.

5. Get Moving

Whether you have never exercised or are just out of practise, now is the time to get into an exercise routine. Start at a pace you can handle, make a realistic goal and don’t be afraid to ask for assistance.

Whatever your festive season looked like, remember to put the guilt and anxiety on the back burner. Use those emotions to fuel your passion to regain your pre-silly-season health. You’ve got this, bring on your best year in 2018!
